Clubs & Organizations

At Central Heights High School, students have the opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of clubs and organizations that enrich their educational experience beyond the classroom. Whether you're interested in academics, leadership, the arts, service, or special interests, there's something for everyone. Being part of a club not only helps students discover new passions and build friendships, but also fosters important life skills like teamwork, communication, and responsibility. Involvement in extracurricular activities is a valuable part of the high school journey and helps prepare students for success in college, careers, and beyond.

  • Academic UIL

    Compete, excel, and advance to state!

    Academic UIL (University Interscholastic League) provides an opportunity for students to showcase their academic skills across a wide variety of subjects. From extemporaneous speaking and Poetry and Prose to challenging tests in Literary Criticism, Current Issues, Spelling & Vocabulary, Math, Science, and Social Studies, students compete at local, regional, and state levels. Top performers who place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, along with first-place teams, move on to regional and state competitions. Those who compete at the state level are eligible to apply for TILF scholarships.


    Who Can Join:
    Students in grades 9–12.

    Requirements to Join:

    • Students should have an interest in the subject matter and be committed to practice and competition.

    • A variety of academic events are available for students to choose from, including math, science, speaking, and more.

    How to Join:
    Students interested in joining should speak with the coach of the event they are interested in.
    CHHS offers a UIL class period where students can study and practice for these competitions.

  • Astronomy Club

    Explore the cosmos and beyond.

    The Astronomy Club at CHHS provides students with a hands-on opportunity to explore the wonders of the universe. From monthly star parties where we stargaze and observe deep space objects through telescopes, to field trips to the SFA Planetarium and NASA, the club offers exciting, out-of-this-world experiences. Members also get to tie-dye club shirts, enjoy space-themed movie nights, and more!


    Who Can Join:
    Students in grades 9–12.

    Requirements to Join:

    • $25 fee to cover the cost of a T-shirt and field trips.

    How to Join:
    Fill out the informational form and pay the $25 dues.

  • Blue Devil Band (High School)

    Pride. Passion. Performance.


    Who Can Join: High School – All grades (must have participated continuously since 6th grade)

    Purpose: We express ourselves through music and believe that working together to create music is a beautiful thing. Being in band means always having a family and a place to call home while you are in high school.

    How to Join: Students must begin band in 6th grade and continue participation each year. Eligibility for high school band requires prior completion of Beginner Band and continued involvement through middle school.

  • FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) – High School

    Faith on campus. Fellowship with purpose.

    The High School FCA is a welcoming space for students to fellowship and dig into God’s Word with others on campus. While FCA emphasizes the influence of coaches and athletes, you don’t have to be an athlete to joineveryone is welcome! The vision of FCA is to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ, starting with students right here at Central Heights.


    Who Can Join:
    All high school students (grades 9–12).

    Requirements to Join:

    • Open to all students—athletes and non-athletes alike.

    How to Join:
    Join us every Friday during lunch as we gather in fellowship and faith.

  • FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America)

    Empowering students to make a difference in families, careers, and communities.

    FCCLA is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) dedicated to helping students in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education. This organization provides opportunities for students to explore careers that support families, careers, and communities, while addressing key personal, work, and societal issues. Through FCCLA, students gain valuable skills that prepare them for successful futures in both personal and professional life.


    Who Can Join:
    Students in grades 9–12 who are currently enrolled in a Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) class, or who have previously taken an FCS class.

    Requirements to Join:

    • Enrollment in an FCS class, either current or past.

    How to Join:
    Join during membership recruitment week by completing the membership affiliation form (provided with the membership information letter) and paying dues.

  • FFA (Future Farmers of America)

    "Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve."

    FFA is a student organization that helps students develop leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. The FFA motto emphasizes learning by doing, while focusing on the importance of community service and career development in agriculture. Whether you're interested in farming, animal science, or agricultural business, FFA provides students with countless opportunities to grow and make a difference.


    Who Can Join:
    Students in grades 7–12 who are enrolled in an Agricultural Education (Ag) class.

    Requirements to Join:

    • Students must be passing all classes to participate in FFA activities.

    • All students enrolled in an Ag class are automatically members of FFA.

    How to Join:
    Enrollment in an Ag class automatically makes students a member of FFA.

  • CH Fishing Club

    Cast your line and reel in the fun!

    The CH Fishing Club is open to all students, from beginner to advanced anglers, who enjoy spending time outdoors. This club participates in 7 tournaments throughout the year on Lake Sam Rayburn, where each team consists of 1 boat captain and 1-2 anglers. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy fishing, teamwork, and friendly competition.


    Who Can Join:
    Students in grades 7–12.

    Requirements to Join:

    • A boat captain with access to a boat is required to participate.

    • The boat captain must be willing to volunteer their time for the tournaments.

    How to Join:

  • Central Heights Soccer Club

    Competitive soccer. School pride. Community spirit.

    The Central Heights Soccer Club offers middle and high school students the opportunity to play competitive soccer as part of a non-UIL program. We field both boys and girls teams in the Outlaw Soccer District, competing against schools of similar size across East Texas. In our very first year, both teams proudly advanced to the playoffs. This club is a great way for students to represent CH while building teamwork, discipline, and athletic skill.


    Who Can Join:
    Students in grades 6–12 (middle and high school).

    Requirements to Join:

    • No prior soccer experience required.

    • Students must meet UIL academic and behavioral standards.

    • A $70 fee is required to help cover district dues, referees, and playoff expenses.

    How to Join:
    Complete the registration form and submit the $70 fee.

  • CHHS STEM Club

    Explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

    The CHHS STEM Club provides students with the opportunity to dive deep into the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. With five specialized groups—Robotics, Coding, 3D Printing, Drones, and Medical—students can explore their interests and develop valuable skills in each area. The club also participates in engineering competitions and seeks out local STEM-based activities and events for students to take part in.


    Who Can Join:
    Students in grades 9–12.

    Requirements to Join:

    • No specific requirements to join.

    How to Join:

  • Student Council

    "We make the good times happen!"

    Central Heights Student Council plays a major role in building school spirit, promoting leadership, and creating memorable experiences for our students. From Senior Sunrise to Senior Sunset—and everything in between—StuCo leads the charge! They organize events such as:

    • Red Ribbon Week

    • Veterans Day Program

    • Homecoming

    • See You at the Game

    • ...and so much more!

    In addition to local events, our Student Council also proudly participates at both the district and state levels, representing CHHS with pride and enthusiasm.


    Who Can Join:
    Students in grades 9–12

    Requirements to Join:

    • Be in good standing with the club

    • Pass all classes

    • Have no major discipline referrals

    How to Join:
    Join during the membership drive (first two weeks of school) by filling out a membership form and paying club dues.

  • The Daily Blue

    Your source for student stories, school happenings, and current events.

    The Daily Blue is Central Heights High School’s online student newspaper, written and produced by our very own Blue Devils. From covering student life, clubs, and sports to reporting on state and national news, this publication gives students a voice—and a platform to sharpen their writing and journalism skills.


    Who Can Join:
    Students in grades 9–12 enrolled in the appropriate journalism course.

    Requirements to Join:

    • Completion of Journalism 1 is required before advancing to Journalism 2, the class that produces The Daily Blue.

    • Students may continue in the program and take Journalism 2–4 in subsequent years.

    How to Join:
    Select Journalism 1 on your schedule choice sheet provided by Mrs. Tyler. Students interested in continuing must register for the appropriate course level each year.

  • CHISD Yearbook

    Capture the moments that matter.

    The CHISD Yearbook team creates the official yearbook for the entire district, documenting the memories and milestones of our students. From performances and sports to everyday moments, our students capture thousands of photos throughout the year. These images are shared with our community, celebrating the vibrant life of our school district and its families.


    Who Can Join:
    Students in grades 9–12.

    Requirements to Join:

    • Students must have the ability to work independently, both on and off campus, and be trustworthy with their responsibilities.

    How to Join:
    Sign up for the class with Mrs. Tyler after receiving information from Mrs. Sharrone King.
